The canoe that took us over the river |
Today has been the adventurous day. Me and five other volunteers have been in the jungle of Chitwan. We had a guide with us who took us over the river and into the mighty jungle. From the jungle you could see the mountains in the background which was amazing. In the jungle you can supposedly see bear, tiger, elephant and rhino. We walked for four hours before we saw it, the rhino. It was lying in the water and when he saw us he got up and started walking towards us. He was scary but beatiful.

Typical houses for Chitwan and the Tharu people |
After the jungle walk we washed elephants, or rather they washed us. We sat on the elephant while the elephant used his trunk to wash himself. It got really wet but at the same time it was so much fun.

Bathing elephants |
Yesterday consisted of a very long bus ride (5hours) and a lot of walking. The best place we went to was the elephant breeding place where they had plenty of baby elephants.

This afternoon we will get to ride elephants and hopefully while riding them we will see tigers! Tonight we will also get to see the local Tahru people's traditional dance and we will go canoeing. These last couple of days have been the best ones so far. On Monday classes will start and hopefully I will get to do a lot of teaching. I don't think I will be able to get to a computer anytime soon, but I'll try to keep you updated as often as I can. Here are some pictures from the jungle walk, the pictures I took of the rhino are all very blurry, probably because I got a bit frightened...
